On April 13, 2016, I joined residents of The Armed Forces Home, in Washington, D.C. and the students of Creative Minds International Public Charter School, for an hour of lively discussion and reading their favorite books. The bright and open space at the school where we sat at round tables to learn from one another was a delight. This relatively new "Reading Buddies Program" is a natural for the students of this International Charter School and their friends that live just footsteps from the school itself.
Starting next fall, the Creative Minds International Public Charter School, will open their doors to 250 students. The Sherman Building that is the site for the energetic and wonderfully unique charter school, is one of the lovely historic structures on the Armed Forces Retirement Home Campus that dates back to the mid-19th century.
I'll be attending another meeting with the "Reading Buddies Program," on April 27, 2016, at noon in the Community Center at The Armed Forces Retirement Home. I have been told that we will share favorite children's books, enjoy delicious cupcakes, and discuss future plans for more afternoons of intergenerational learning activities. I am looking forward to April 27th!
Most grateful, Glenna.
